Listen for the small gesture between the words

Selma and Sofiane Ouissi are brother and sister, hailing from Tunis, where, in the disadvantaged medina quarter, they established the Dream City arts festival. With ‘The Minor Gesture’ they seek out what it is that connects people in spite of linguistic borders and other differences. Their focus is on the body, which, like an archive of lived experiences, has a story to tell. ‘The Minor Gesture’ invites you to listen differently, to hear the small gestures between the words.

According to the Canadian philosopher, activist and artist Erin Manning, the biggest revolutions are found in small, everyday, unnoticed gestures. For Selma and Sofiane Ouissi, too, small gestures can be both poetic and political. They believe in paying radical attention to the other. Over the past five years, Selma and Sofiane have collected a series of unheard life stories in Ghent, Brussels, Metz and Marseille. Each story becomes the score for a collective movement. Every production is different: for each one, two different stories are embodied by local participants.

In the smallest gesture, the extremely personal becomes shareable and the universal becomes visible. Expect movement, both physical and emotional.
