NOOIT TE LAAT: Femke Gyselinck

'Moving Ballads'

A ballad for Joni Mitchell

After creating ‘Flamer’, the duet performed with her brother/drummer Lander Gyselinck, dancer and choreographer Femke Gyselinck returns with the musical dance performance ‘Moving Ballads’. Gyselinck searches for the unheard connections between pop music and contemporary dance, between lyrics and lyricism, imitation and imagination.

‘Moving Ballads’ takes the etymological meaning of ‘ballad’ as a danced song literally. Pianist/composer Hendrik Lasure composed a ballad especially for the performance. A ballad that musically and lyrically honours the work of Joni Mitchell. Alongside three dancers he will perform a series of variations of the song, ranging from strict musical performance to silent dance. Gyselinck’s choreography aims to strike a balance between organisation and physical individualism, between stylised motion and carelessness.
