What are the effects of Covid-19 and Black Lives Matter?

For our first edition of 'In de Soep' online we invite guest speakers Joshua Allen and Felicia Olusanya to share their insights and expertise as young people leading the way in their communities through their practices as activists and artists. Together, we reflect on the effects of COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement and what we are learning from these historic moments.

Irish-Nigerian Felicia Olusanya (aka Felispeaks) is a spoken word artist. She dreams of changing the world of poetry in her home country. Olusanya draws on various influences, art forms and her own (love) life for her work. Felispeaks has previously been seen at events such as the Dublin Fringe Festival, the Body & Soul Festival and Electric Picnic.

Joshua Allen (they/them) is a non binary artist & activist from Brooklyn, NY and founding organizer of the Black Excellence Collective. Currently they are serving as a member of Resist foundation's 2020 funding group, a faculty member for the Sadie Nash Leadership Project's award winning Summer Institute and working on their debut collection of prose & poetry titled 'All The Things I Never Said'.

About 'In de soep'

'In de soep' is a reflection program where every two weeks we go into conversation with an artist and a specialist around the issues that are keeping us up at night. We want to take the time to engage these issues on both a macro and a micro level, to get both an international perspective for inspiration and a specific, local perspective to make it concrete. For this reason every edition of In de soep will feature an online session and a live session.

The online session takes place every second Wednesday at 19h30 as a Zoom webinar and will be live streamed via Facebook Live. They will be hosted by Vooruit dramaturg and programmer Kopano Maroga. Participation in the webinar and Q&A is free, registration is obliged.
