A living archive of urban wounds

Valentina Medda is an interdisciplinary artist based in Bologna -IT. She holds an MA in Philosophy from University of Bologna -IT, and a Certificate Degree in Photography from ICP- International Center of Photography, in NY. Recently invited to be part of the MIBAC’s Grand Tour d’Italie, Valentina has shown her work internationally, and she has been invited as artist in residence in several cities in Europe and abroad –Beirut (BAR), NYC (Flux Factory), Milan (OPEN CARE); Bologna (Maison Ventidue), Paris,(Centre international d’accueil aux Récollets and Cité des Arts), and Brussels (Le bains:connective) among others.

In these past years, she's been the recipient of the Roberto Cimetta Mobility Grant; the NYFA's Fellowship; the Master and Back’s grant from Regione Sardegna; the Movin Up Award from the Italian government, the Kodak Color Elite Prize, and the TINA ART Prize.

Her art practice lays at the crossroads between performance, photography and intervention, positioning itself right at the border that separates and connects public and private, body and architecture, urban space and social belonging.

Valentina Medda (IT) will be one of the presenting artists during the Vooruit-festival ‘OPENBARE WERKEN’ in april 2020. She works on her UNTITLED project -a living archive of urban wounds, where ‘urban cracks’ become tattoos on people bodies. Interested? Come and visit Valentina during her residency at Vooruit, she will open up her studio a few times. A nice moment to get to know her work personally. Valentina will explain the project and discuss with you the possibilites to have a ‘crack’ tattooed on your body. No obligation, it’s an exploratory introduction. About Famke Dhont

Famke Dhont (°1992, B) studied Stage and Media Arts at UGent. As a production manager, she supports various artists, companies and events. She has worked for Studio ORKA, cabinet K, Wildemannen & Woestewijven, Philosophy’s Day e.o..  She’s currently working freelance for theater maker Peter Aers and the Building Conversation collective. Famke is down to earth, loves to watch a creation process, is fascinated by rooms and the past of people. She’s very curious and likes to watch people and things.
