In response to an invitation from Dream City – the Tunis Biennial for Contemporary Art – Jozef Wouters works on ‘The Soft Layer’. For this project Wouters moves from his decor workshop in Molenbeek to the Medina of Tunis. In collaboration with Vladimir Miller and Tunisian artists Amira Chebli, Hichem Chebli and Fatma Ben Saïdane, Wouters performs a ritual of restoration. Wouters embraces the complexity of the layers of time that we call a building. After its premiere in Tunis, the group will bring this ritual to other places, beginning with Vooruit.
Scenographer Jozef Wouters is known for his creative answers to questions that keep him awake at night. Drawing on a combination of his lucid imagination, architectural knowledge and social insights, Wouters searches for answers to these questions. He is part of Meg Stuart's collective Damaged Goods and is the driving force behind the accessible artists' room Decoratelier.
“Zijn vermogen om ruimtes te transformeren, en daarmee de mensen die ze bevolken, is uitzonderlijk.”
