What does it feel like to live a life many consider out of date in today’s society? ‘Talk Show’ sheds a light on the eccentric profession of the circus artist. Reality is captured on stage: deceptions, euphoria, confessions and opinions are shared.
Different circus artists enter the arena. The stage - completely stripped of any scenery - offers a space to express disappointments and frustrations with a sense of humour and an absence of taboo. Gaël Santisteva moderates the conversation from the sidelines. Armed with a microphone and a mixing desk, he punctuates, comments and provokes debate. To avoid coming over as a staged performance, the topics are drawn randomly in real time.
“The challenge in this performance lies in the ability to be true, to say everything that one thinks, straightforward, but always with the aim of stimulating collective thinking. At a time where success is a collective obsession and recognition at all costs is glorified, I’d like to show mature artists’ bodies and question their value and richness of meaning.”
